Santa Fe Preparatory School graduated her in 1986. She was a student at Northwestern University where she majored in the field of theater. She graduated in the year 1990. Gunn was a student abroad at the British American Drama Academy during the fall of 1988. She stayed in the same house as Pamela Adlon after moving to Laurel Canyon Los Angeles. Gunn's performance in AMC's Drama Breaking as Skyler white is among her roles that are the most well-known. In 2013 and 2014, she received her the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Supporting Female Performer in Drama Series. In August of 2013, she published an opinion piece in The New York Times examining the negative comments made by people about her role as a character.
